I Need to Blog

I need to blog, its been a year since I left ABC News in order to pursue a better quality of life.
I need to pray, that the decision I made is backed by faith in the works I'm pursuing
I need to work, to make sure that I can enjoy the fruits of my labor and get B. Green up and going.
I need to enjoy, the fact that I no longer am called to and fro by a job
I need to love, while I can because love ones are being taken away everyday. Michael, McNair...etc
I need to end, this blog and get back to work.

Popeye's Chicken: Discounts Cause Nationwide Gridlock

It's really hard to stay away from the actual facts but the reality is, a lot of black people in America enjoy chicken. This isn't racist, this isn't silly, this is just fact. As if anyone needed any proof, millions of people nation-wide were in traffic yesterday as Popeye's ran a promotional sale (which had been heavily advertised on television for two weeks) giving chicken away a a fraction of their normal retail prices. Most of these lines were in majority black neighborhoods like my Miami home.

I experienced the gridlock causing lines on my way to church on Wednesday evening. I didn't know what the problem was at the time, but the traffic was backed up around a Popeye's restaurant. I know this because a friend of mine lives nearby and the Popeye's serves as the landmark to remind you of the turn you make shortly before getting to his house.

I'm still in shock.

The sale didn't really resonate with me because I'm a vegetarian. So that's why I aimlessly went on about my day, not realizing that I might have been wiser to take a back street to my destination yesterday evening. It never occurred to me that Popeye's would be a traffic causing nightmare.

I wish I took pictures, because the site was just that unbelievable. Three lanes of traffic backed up for a mile in each direction. Can you imagine what employees at the restaurant chain must have been thinking when they showed up for work? "What in the world did we get ourselves into?" they might have quipped.

So this was of course a completely non-scientific survey, but I posted a Facebook status message expressing my surprise at how unruly the who event was and came to find out that I was not alone. Friends from the Georgia, Ohio, and the Carolinas all weighed in expressing the fact that they too had witnessed the same lines at Popeye's near their homes.

This only really means one thing. If you throw chicken on sale anywhere, you're going to have a mess on your hands. Bottom line.

In Nassau, they had to call the police. Popeye's even had a little fun encouraging customers to twitter in from the lines. Unreal.

There are sure to be more articles written on this in the morning, I will follow up with updates.

Sucess of In Living Color

Does anyone discuss this ever? I mean let's seriously think about how successful the show "In Living Color" was. It was only around for four years 1990-1994 and if success is just what people go on to do, this show was one of the most successful ever.

I mean per capita, was it more successful than Saturday Night Live as far as sketch comedy and the propelling of its actors/comedians into better more prominent or profitable roles?

Here's a brief list off the top of my head:

Jamie Fox: Academy Award winner, notable R & B Singer and Comedian. Had his own television show at one point.

Keenen Ivory Wayans
: The creator, director and writer of In Living Color.

Jim Carrey: Two time Golden Globe winner. Notable actor, multiple lead roles.

David Alan Grier: Host of Chocolate News on Comedy Central for a taste. Also played in several movie roles but is most notably remembered as a skilled impressionist.

T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh
: She played Raven's mom, Tanya Baxter on "That's So Raven!"

Damon Wayans: Starred in My Wife and Kids, The Last Boy Scout and Major Payne.

Kim Coles
: Best known for playing Synclaire on Living Single. She's had prominent roles on many sitcoms.
